Peter is one of the founding directors of the MCC Group. A Fellow of the Australasian Institute of Marine Surveyors – joining the Institute in 1992 – he was President from 2013 until 2021 when the Institute changed from an Association to a Limited Liability Company. He was elected the first Chairman of the new AIMS Ltd Board in September 2021. Stepping down in November 2021 he now continues to serve as a Board member. Peter is also an Associate Fellow of the Nautical Institute and currently Secretary of the Queensland Branch.
An alumnus of Brisbane Grammar School (1968 – 1972) Peter began his seagoing career in 1973 as a Deck Cadet with the Australian National Line, gaining his Master Mariner Class 1 (Unlimited) Certificate in 1983. In 1986 he left the sea and began his marine surveying career with Associated Surveyors Queensland (a Division of the P&O Australia Group) in Gladstone.
His seagoing career saw service on bulk carriers, oil tankers, container vessels, Ro/Ro’s and passenger ferries. This wide-ranging experience placed him in good stead when starting out on his marine surveying career.
Since the founding of the MCC Group Peter has travelled far and wide around the globe on a variety of assignments. In the early 1990’s the MCC Group was the first Marine Surveying Company accredited to inspect cargo holds of vessels loading fertilizers for Australia. Very strict Quarantine hold inspection protocols (zero organic contaminants) were put in place in response to the threat of karnal bunt disease being introduced from USA/Canada. The MCC Group was at the forefront of developing the hold inspection techniques and standards in response to these new protocols.
Peters ongoing interest today is maintaining and improving Marine Surveyor standards to meet future demands and the promotion of the Marine Surveying Profession via the AIMS Ltd – both within Australia and overseas.
Career Highlights
Since forming MCC he has been to most corners of the globe on a variety of assignments. He specialises in the inspection and cleaning of ships’ holds to the very strict Australian government protocols. He also advises shipowners on AMSA requirements prior to their vessels trading to Australia.
His valuable experience means he is a mentor to many of our younger members of staff.
